“Whether your wether’s a fair weather wether
Or whether he weathers the storm
Hither and thither or whither you wander,
Together you’ll never go wrong.”

Five years ago I had never heard of Packgoats. It was a rainy day in January as I was meandering through the Washington Sportsman’s Show in Puyallup, when I saw my first Packgoats. I thought, ‘that’s cute’ and ‘how quaint!’ I proceeded to walk on over to take a closer look at these interesting beasts of burden. After spending some time with the goats, and talking with members of the Evergreen Packgoat Club I soon realized that Packgoats are not just a novelty. Packgoats are a hearty and loyal trail companion that have distinct and desirable advantages over all other packstock. Advantages include but are not limited to traits such as high intelligence and extremely friendly dispositions. They are physically strong, loyal and disciplined animals. They also have the ability to negotiate rougher, tougher, steeper, and higher terrain, than most other packstock As a small hoofed pack animal they virtually leave no trace, as well as their easy manageability on the trail and low maintenance cost , as a whole, make them the perfect pack animal.

As a boy I grew up on a dairy farm in upstate New York. They say that you can take the boy off the farm but you can’t take the farm out of the boy! After high school and college graduation I joined the Army Reserve and active duty Army. My last duty station was Fort Lewis Washington which was great as I am an avid hunter and hiker. Upon separating from the Army I chose to stay in Washington because of my passion for the great outdoors. It was shortly thereafter that I made my first contact with packgoats and created Wethers’ Field Packgoats.
Wethers’ Field Packgoats is located in Longbranch on the beautiful Key Peninsula outside of Gig Harbor, Washington. We have Ten Pack”boys”,( Klaus, Snowball, Bucky, Elmira, Jasper, Hunter, Burley, Calvin, Buster, and Curley), four does( Heidi, Miracle, Rain, and Jesse), two bucks( Morgan and Tucker) and Cody, our Maremma livestock guardian dog, who oversees the whole operation. We offer a number of bottle fed kids for sale, a Stud Buck Service, and of course Packgoat rentals. Our herd is certified CAE free.
