Interested in Goatpacking?

Interested in goatpacking but don’t want to have the responsibilities of owning and maintaining your own herd of packgoats? Well, here’s your chance. Wethers Field Packgoats and Excursions offers packgoat rentals to anyone wanting to enhance their backcountry experience with one of our four legged trail companions.

All animals provided by Wethers Field Packgoats and Excursions will be in good health and working condition. All routine health maintenance will be taken care of prior to the renter taking delivery of the animals. All rental equipment will be inspected and in good working order at time of delivery.

Rental Requirements

Renter is required to complete a Packgoat handler training provided by Wethers Field Packgoats and Excursions. This training consists of both lecture and hands on training covering at least two hours of instruction.

Training includes:

• Safe handling of the animals
• Proper grooming
• First Aid care
• Saddle and pad placement
• Securing saddle
• Loading panniers onto goats and securing to saddle
• High-line and Picketing
• Trail leading – switchbacks
• Feeding and watering
• Walking with your goats
• Problems to watch for
• Learning to read the animals

 

A required hike with the goats will take place immediately following the lecture and hands on portion of the training.

Pricing

Goat Rental: $25 a day/ per goat/minimum 2 goats
                     Or one week for $275 for 2 goats
                                                $400 for 3 goats
                                                $550 for 4 goats

Rental for each goat includes: saddle with pad, pannier set, collar, lead and halter. Equipment also included per trip: scale, picket/high-line rope, collapsible bucket, basic vet kit, brush and electrolytes.
Trailer Rental: $50
Health Certificate: $60 per animal (for out of state travel)
Applicable state and local taxes.

All rental agreements will be provided for renter during and upon completion of the packgoat handler training.
